March 31, 2008

Message from Steve Pierce:-
Just to let you know about the 1st gig at Pau Brasil on Fri 11th April. The  first of many,
Ife has worked with  a wide variety of people in Brasil -  some you may know include João Donato, Paulo Moura, Toninho Horta and Sivuca.  In the UK  he has worked in Monica Vasconcelos’ Nois  – which has done several CDs and the festival circuits etc  (Nois includes Steve Lodder and Paul Jayasina)  The small band project  he co led was called As Meninas, which later became Nois 4 ,  features Ingrid Laubrock, ( who I’m hoping to book later this year) .

Message from Neil Hodgson:

Jazz workshops for all instruments and levels of ability take place on Monday nights from 7:30 onwards at Jagz, Ascot <http://www.jagz.co.uk> (just next to Ascot station). The workshop is led by saxophonist Tony Woods <http://www.tonywoods.org>. It is followed by a friendly jam session from 9:00 onwards which is open to all (not just workshop attendees). The workshop costs £8 (including the jam). It’s £2 for folks coming for the jam only.

The next workshop and jam is on Monday 31st March.

Message from Peter Kingslake:
Don’t forget it’s the Newbury Jazz Platform on Friday, at the Northcroft centre as usual, starting about 8pm.

My friend, who is the head of music at Garth College in Bracknell, is holding their first Jazz evening next Wednesday (19th) from 7pm.  There will be performances from the school’s jazz orchestra, Rob Lester (see links) and a trio featuring Carl Engelmarc, Fabio Iacono and myself.  Any support for the event will be greatly appreciated.

First Night Success

March 11, 2008

Thank you everyone who came down, listened, played and made the first Reading Jazz Jam a great success.  There was an excellent turnout and an amazingly high standard of playing all evening.

Some pictures of the evening can be viewed here (please let me know if you would like me to email any of the pictures to you).

I will be announcing the next date and regular arrangement very soon and I would like this blog to become the first point of contact for information regarding the jam session.

If any of you have websites you would like to be included here, please give me details and I will put them on the links list.
